About Us

Who We Are

Alleghany Writers is a 501c3 arts non-profit that develops programming to nurture avid readers and aspiring writers in Alleghany County, North Carolina.

Through educational workshops and visiting author events for students and adults we encourage creative writing and critical thinking and promote reading as a pastime.

Our programs are funded through grants, contributions, and proceeds from literary events and activities.

What We Believe

When we express our thoughts and ideas through writing, we better understand ourselves and our place in the world. The more people write, the more people read. The more people discuss, the more a community develops into a unique place to live, work, and grow.
